Historical Architecture of Beaufort NC

CIVIL WAR & BEAUFORT

April, 1862.  Fort Macon shelled & defeated. Burnside & Northern occupation brings supply of goods. a famous lady spy appears and life under Military Law within Beaufort. NC.

 A typical soldier makes $13 monthly, wears wool uniforms and a bar of soap costs $3.   Yellow Fever is the dreaded disease.  

FRONT STREET EAST

Visit the extended part of Beaufort, going East. See "topsail"  inlet, where Blackbeard reportedly anchored in 1718. Possible "Banks" horse sightings!  View the old fisherman's house! 

Go further to marinas, dry stacks, net reels to dry & mend nets. We see how Beaufort, NC expands from 1950's to present day. Craftsman style "assembly" homes appear as the railroad extends to Beaufort, NC in 1908.
